Toby Keith, the acclaimed American country singer-songwriter and music producer, passed away on February 5, 2024, at the age of 62, after a courageous battle with stomach cancer.
Born on July 8, 1961, in Clinton, Oklahoma, Keith rose to fame with his 1993 debut single “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” which became the most-played country song of the 1990s.
Throughout his career, he released numerous chart-topping hits, including “Red Solo Cup” and “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue,” solidifying his status as a country music icon.
In the fall of 2021, Keith was diagnosed with stomach cancer. He publicly revealed his diagnosis in June 2022, stating that he had undergone surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.
Despite his illness, Keith maintained a positive outlook and continued to engage with his fans. He made his last public appearance in September 2023 during the People’s Choice Country Awards at the Grand Ole Opry, where he received the Country Icon Award.

The event celebrated Keith’s impact on country music and benefited The Toby Keith Foundation and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital.
