Gavin Creel Death; American actor, singer, and songwriter Gavin Creel Has Died

Gavin Creel, the acclaimed American actor, singer, and songwriter, passed away on September 30, 2024, at the age of 48, following a battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer known as sarcoma.

Born on April 18, 1976, in Findlay, Ohio, Creel began his theater career with his Broadway debut in 2002’s “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” earning his first Tony nomination. He received another nomination in 2009 for his role in “Hair” and won his first Tony Award in 2017 for “Hello, Dolly!”

In July 2024, Creel was diagnosed with metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. He died from the disease under hospice care at his home in Manhattan on September 30, 2024, at the age of 48.

Creel’s passing has deeply affected the Broadway community, with numerous actors and colleagues expressing their grief and paying tribute to his talent and kindness. Theaters in New York City, Toronto, and London’s West End have dimmed their lights in his honor

A public memorial service was held at the St. James Theatre in New York City on December 2, 2024, where members of the theater community gathered to celebrate his life and contributions to the arts.

Creel is survived by his partner, Alex Temple Ward, and his two sisters.
