Firefighter and Paramedic Justin Powers Dies Unexpectedly, Community Mourns
The Avon Fire Department has announced with profound sadness the active-duty death of Firefighter and Paramedic Justin Powers. Powers passed away unexpectedly on December 24, 2024, leaving his colleagues and community in mourning.
Boston MedFlight, where Powers was also a valued team member, expressed their grief in a statement:
“We are deeply saddened to share that Boston MedFlight has lost a dear friend and colleague. Justin Powers passed away unexpectedly on December 24, 2024,” said Maura Hughes, Chief Executive Officer of Boston MedFlight.
Jennifer Powers, Justin’s wife and a fellow Boston MedFlight colleague, shared that Justin “tragically lost his battle with PTSD.” Justin joined Boston MedFlight in 2019 as an EMT and most recently worked as part of the education staff in the Simulation Lab, training clinical team members.
In addition to his role at Boston MedFlight, Powers served in the Army National Guard and was a firefighter and paramedic for the Avon Fire Department. He had recently returned to Boston MedFlight following a deployment with his National Guard unit.
The Acushnet Fire & EMS Department shared their condolences on social media, writing, “Sending our thoughts and prayers to the men and women of the Avon Fire Department and the family of FF Justin Powers on his sudden passing!”
The community extends its deepest sympathies to Justin’s wife, Jennifer, his family, friends, and colleagues as they mourn the loss of a dedicated public servant.
