Former Jeffco Public Schools Chief David Weiss Found Dead in Maryland
A shocking turn of events has unfolded in Maryland, where David Weiss, the former chief of Jeffco Public Schools, was found dead on Wednesday. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office notified the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, revealing that Weiss’s death is under investigation.
According to authorities, Weiss’s body was discovered around 9:30 Wednesday morning, with preliminary indications suggesting that he died by suicide. An autopsy is currently underway to confirm the cause and manner of death.
Weiss had been visiting family in Maryland at the time of his passing. His death comes just weeks after he was terminated from his position as chief of schools on December 19, amid a criminal investigation.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office had been investigating Weiss for possession of child sexual abuse material. Despite his passing, the investigation will continue, according to the sheriff’s office.
Weiss had a two-decade career in public education, including 10 years with Jeffco. He held various roles, including principal at Westgate Elementary School and assistant high school principal in the Douglas County School District.
The Jeffco Public Schools district has confirmed that Weiss oversaw 11 community superintendents and managed the executive director of athletics and activities, as well as the director of student discipline.
