Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Shooting of Teenager on Rouse Drive
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tragic shooting that occurred on Monday night, leaving one teenager dead and another injured.
Deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the 7900 block of Rouse Drive at approximately 6:16 p.m. They arrived on the scene within minutes, at 6:20 p.m., where they discovered the devastating aftermath of the violent incident.
Eighteen-year-old Geary Lynch, a young father, was fatally shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. The loss of Lynch has left his family and friends heartbroken, mourning the tragic and untimely end of a life filled with potential.
A 16-year-old male involved in the incident was initially thought to have sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. However, further investigation revealed that his injury was road rash, likely caused during the chaos that unfolded during the shooting.
Preliminary findings indicate that the incident stemmed from an argument between the two teens and individuals in a vehicle. During the altercation, the suspects fired at the teens before fleeing the scene.
Adding another layer to the investigation, deputies discovered a stolen firearm in the possession of the 16-year-old male. Authorities are working to determine its connection to the incident.
